“Oral and maxillofacial Surgery is the specialty of dentistry which includes the surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region”
Our practice is dedicated to providing the highest quality of oral surgical care, compassion, sensitivity, and professionalism possible. We take pride in our cutting edge approach to patient care, and try to provide our patients with the most current and predictable procedures available today.
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery requires a minimum of (4) additional years of hospital surgical and anesthesia training beyond dental school. Oral Surgeons are trained to treat diseases of the mouth, jaws and surrounding structures. As a full scope practice we treat patients for orthognathic and reconstructive jaw surgery, oral pathology, temporomandibular disorders, dentoalveolar surgery (including extractions and wisdom teeth), pediatric oral surgery, dental implants and bone grafting.
Many people wonder if they are candidates for dental implants. Our answer to that question is almost always a resounding yes. There are very few situations today, with all the technological advances available that would preclude a patient from getting dental implants. Prior to treatment we perform a thorough exam of your mouth, jaws and x-rays and after consultation with your dentist, advise you of the options available for replacement of your missing teeth with dental implants.
Wisdom teeth that do not erupt properly into the mouth, or do not erupt at all are known as impacted. Impacted teeth can take many different positions in the bone as they try to find an eruption pathway. As a result of their poor positions, these teeth can cause many problems. Partially impacted teeth that are sticking out of the gum are difficult to clean, and are therefore subject to decay and infection. Full bony impacted teeth can form cysts and tumors around them destroying surrounding jawbone and adjacent teeth.
